Abstract

Pineapple crowns (ananas comosus (L) merr) contain lots of vitamin A, vitamin C, and antioxidants so they are good for moisturizing, nourishing, and maintaining healthy lip skin. This research aims to determine whether extracts from pineapple crowns can be formulated as moisturizers in lip balm preparations using concentrations of 5%, 10%, 15%. The results of this research show that the three lip balm formulas have good physical quality of the lip balm preparations during organoleptic tests, homogeneity tests, pH tests, and irritation tests. Pineapple crown extract can be well formulated to become a lip balm preparation that has quality physical characteristics and has the potential to be developed into a cosmetic preparation that is able to maintain skin moisture when lips are dry and chapped.
