Abstract

Guava leaves (Psidium Guajava L) are a plant that has many benefits. Guava leaves contain alkaloids, tannins and flavonoids. The Guava plant (Psidium guajava L) is known by the Indonesian people as a herbal medicine that can be used to treat various diseases. Local people in Indonesia use guava leaves as an anti- diarrhea. Tannins have chelating spasmolytic properties which shrink or contract the intestines so that intestinal peristalsis is reduced. The aim of this research was to test the antidiarrheal activity and determine the optimum concentration of ethanol extract of guava leaves (Psidium guajava L). Extraction was carried out using the maceration method using 70% ethanol solvent. Mice were divided into five groups consisting of 3 mice; negative control group (CMC Na 0.5%), positive control group (Loperamide HCL), extract group (doses of 200,300 and 400 mg/kgBW). Each group was induced with oleum ricini 1 mL orally, the group was given oral treatment and observations were made regarding the onset of diarrhea, frequency of diarrhea, and duration of diarrhea for five hours. The conclusion of this research is that the ethanol extract of guava leaves at a dose of 400 mg/kgBW provides the most effective antidiarrheal activity in white male mice (Mus Musculus L) induced by oleum ricini. So it is necessary to test the toxicity of guava leaves at a dose of 400 mg/kgBW on white male mice (Mus Musculus L). So you can know its safety when used as an antidiarrheal.
